Ali Payam Sattarzadeh has been lead consultant orthodontist at Luton and Dunstable Hospital since 2010, and also is a consultant at Bedford Hospital.
He completed his specialist orthodontic training at The Royal London Hospital and Ipswich Hospital.
Ali undertook further training at Kings College Hospital and Royal Surrey Hospital in the management of the most complex orthodontic problems. This training led to award of Fellowship in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons in England and allowed him to take up his current consultant post.
He is very experienced and particularly enjoys treating the most severe adult and child cases that are referred by specialist colleagues, as well as general dentists. Patients are also routinely referred for remedial orthodontics where previous treatment has failed. His areas of interest include non-surgical treatment of anterior open bites, management of cases with multiple congenitally missing teeth, orthodontic treatment which reduces the reliance on patients to have prosthetic replacements through use of mini-implants or auto-transplant teeth.
He works closely with a multidisciplinary team including Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons and Restorative Consultants.
Ali has been training orthodontic specialists and orthodontic therapists since 2013.
He has a firm belief that prospective patients would prefer to see visual examples of patients who initially presented with similar problems to their own. They would also actually like to see the quality of results, which are achievable. To that effect, all photos shown here are of personally treated cases. He is determined to achieve the best aesthetic and functional result possible without cutting any corners, compromises or “quick fixes”.
Due to the severity of cases shown, the opportunity has also been used to provide some educational information regarding the treatment for each case. This is to benefit both for prospective patients and interested dental colleagues who may wish to refer or work in close collaboration.
Ali sees patients for private orthodontic treatment through the Cobham Clinic at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital and also at Watford Orthodontic Practice.

PAST TRAINING and EXPERIENCE
- 2002 BDS with distinction obtained from Royal London Hospital, part of the Queen Mary University of London.
- 2002-3 Vocational Dental training in North West London (General Dentistry).
- 2003-4 Senior House Officer at Manchester Dental Hospital and Preston Hospital (including Paediatric Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery).
- 2004-5 Community Dental Officer, Newham East London (treatment of children and special needs patients, mobile dental service treating 4-6 year old children at schools).
- 2005-8 Specialist Registrar in Orthodontics at Royal London Hospital and Ipswich Hospital (Specialist training in Orthodontics).
- 2008-10 Senior Registrar in Orthodontics at Kings College Hospital and Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford (Further training to be accredited as a Consultant Orthodontist).
CURRENT POST
- 2010 to Date: I have worked as a Lead Consultant Orthodontist at the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, where I treat the most complex cases. This post involves training of dentists training as specialist orthodontists and providing advice to specialist orthodontist and general dentists.
As part of this post, I also work at Bedford Hospital treating similar complex cases.
- 2012 to Date: I have worked part time in specialist practices in Bedfordshire and Watford where I have treated many adults and children with all types of bite problems.
- 2017 to Date: Chair of the Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Orthodontic Managed Clinical Network (HBLMK OMCN). I work with other regional consultants and specialists in orthodontics, dentists and commissioners to undertake important activities such as improving patient pathways and access to care.
